Signs of alcohol abuse

Alcohol is deemed to be an amusing supplement for social activities. Several millions of Americans enter into a risky drinking that could bring about. This could bring in splurge drinking and excessive drinking on a recurrent basis. Contrary to fabricated notions that people used to have back then alcohol abuse is quite different from alcoholism. Alcohol abuse involves a pattern of drinking within a 12-month period that can be treated and cured whereas alcoholism includes strong craving for alcohol or loss of restrain over drinking, or somehow physical dependence and toleration. Alcoholism is a disease that can be dealt with but there is no current cure. A rough estimate of 14 million people in the United States are said to be abusing alcohol or who are already alcoholic.

 





Alcohol’s effect is fatal and gravely serious. Since excessive drinking increases the risk for specific cancers more particularly those of the liver, esophagus, throat, and larynx of the voice box. Such trend in drinking may cause liver cirrhosis, immune system problems, brain damage, and damage to the fetus during pregnancy. Moreover it also increases the risk of death from automobile crashes as well as recreational and on-the-job injuries. Crimes are most likely to be committed by people who have been drinking.

There are more than a few signs that are manifested by people who are already abusing alcohol such as inability to fulfill major work, school or home responsibilities. Another is drinking in circumstances that are physically dangerous for instance while in driving. Next is being involved in alcohol-related-legal problems such as being arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Continued drinking despite of relationship problems are the most evident manifestation of alcohol abuse.     

Alcohol abuse symptoms include drunkenness, drowsiness, behavioral changes, coordination difficulty, slurred speech, aggression, inappropriate sexual behavior, poor attention span, memory problems and above all, coma. From here one would be able to realize that alcohol abuse that such habit is a problem, identifying the problem is one thing but accepting the fact that it has to be treated is another problem. But the sooner you get help the higher the chance you get obtaining a fruitful recovery. Blood tests that measure carbohydrate-deficient transferring are much reliable indicator of chronic misuse instead of just plain blood alcohol tests. There are also other tests that determine damage in the liver and decreased testosterone in men which eventually convince people that they need help. A health care assistant may help you determine which treatment is most effective for you. One of his utmost priorities would be to make you realize that drinking is unhealthy and that you should set a drinking goal for yourself whether you abstain or limit yourself that would be your choice depending on what is applicable for your case. He would also brief you to restrain yourself from situations that might instigate you to that unhealthy drinking pattern of yours. He would probably ask you to attend seminars and meetings to further enlighten you of the benefits that you could draw from abstaining in alcohol drinking.
