Insomnia and Sleep Problems.

 

The fast-paced world nowadays demand from us not to have enough sleep, making insomnia and other sleep problems a modern health problem that is overcoming many of us. Over time, insomnia and sleep problems can cause many health hazards such as memory loss, depression, fatigue, high blood pressure, obesity and heart disease.  Many people suffer from insomnia and other sleep problems that result in them having less and low-quality sleep.  Insomnia, which is the inability to sleep easily, is a very common sleeping disorder. It can be from disturbed or restless to having problems in falling asleep. And extreme case of insomnia can be the complete wakefulness, or inability to sleep completely. Generally you should not be concern for some lack of sleep, even if you do not experience a full night’s sleep. However if with losing sleep, the ability of a person to function fully well is impaired during daytime, it can be a problem. 





 

There are factors that prevent us from enjoying sleep, like sleep apnea, medications, frequent travel, chronic pain and diet. But the most common cause of sleep is stress and tension. Fortunately, this is one cause of sleeplessness and insomnia that is easily to treat. Just knowing how to get better sleep is sometimes all the medicine you need to help you resolve sleeping problems.

Your physical condition can likewise complicate your sleeping patterns. For example, if you have the need for frequent urination, or if you suffer from leg cramps and other painful health situations like asthma, arthritis, restless leg syndrome and other medical problems are all factors which can interfere with a good night’s sleep. Social circumstances are also a factor that disturbs a normal sleeping pattern. Consuming too much alcohol or caffeine, watching television problems up to the wee hours, or eating too much food very close to your bedtime or even doing heavy physical exercise before sleeping can wreck havoc on your sleeping patterns.

There are many ways on how you can able to overcome insomnia and other sleep problems.  First of all, try to establish a regular bedtime ritual that can act as a cue which will remind your body that it is time for it to have some sleep or rest.  Such acts can be doing some stroll a few hours before your bedtime, taking a shower or warm bath or drinking a glass of milk are factors that can trigger your mind into inducing your body to sleep. Trying to sleep and waking up at the same time regularly will likewise help keep your body’s internal clock working rhythmically better and will increase the chance for you to have better sleep.

Limit your intake of nicotine, alcohol and caffeine and if you have to take them, just try not to take them six hours before your bedtime. Caffeine, nicotine and alcohol are powerful stimulants that will keep you from getting your sleep. Alcohol, while can be considered a sedative can create an erratic sleeping pattern that can disturb your natural sleeping rhythm.

You must also avoid eating or drinking before you go to sleep. This is because your body would be exerting a lot of energy in order to digest food. Such digestion process will definitely disrupt your regular sleep for the night. Drinking water and other liquids before you sleep will make you urinate more frequently during the night, also interrupting your sleep.

If your insomnia or other sleep problems are persistent, then you should consult your doctor or health care provider.  Usually, a professional advice that your sleeping problems only result from anxieties or a curable health disorder can relieve distress and actually helps in restoring normal sleep pattern.  Your doctor can also give you a prescription of medicine that can effectively help you treat your insomnia.
